Next Session:

Registration Period: June 1, 2024 to October 1, 2024

Start Date: Tuesday evening class will start August 27, 2024, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the Great Hall. Childcare provided upon request.

If you’re searching for meaning, truth and community, join others on the same journey and explore Catholicism together.

You’ll also get these additional benefits:

  • A member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church will walk with you on your journey, to answer your questions and to start introducing you to this warm and welcoming community
  • Weekly meetups (on Tuesdays) to talk, ask all your hard questions, and learn about Catholicism
  • A table facilitator to help guide conversation and answer questions
  • You can bring your spouse – if they’re Catholic, they can co-sponsor you. If not, they can learn with you!
  • You can bring your kids – we have childcare available in the next room over (let us know so we can have enough childcare staff available)
  • Occasional presentations by priests and deacons so you can ask them all the hard questions, too
  • Learn about the Mass – when to sit, stand or kneel and what to say
  • Plus (starting in December), weekly Sunday Break Open the Word gatherings, where you get to discuss short Scripture readings and how they resonate with YOU and your own life
  • And, last but not least, get help navigating the process of annulling a previous marriage and/or having the Church bless your current marriage

What is all this?

In the Catholic Church, it’s typically called the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults or OCIA, and it’s the way that non-Catholics can become Catholic, if they so choose.

If you want to be able to receive Communion during Mass, this is the place for you.

If you haven’t been baptized and think you might want to be, this is the place for you.

If you're a Catholic who hasn’t received all of your Sacraments, this is the place for you to enter full communion with the Church.

But it all starts with OCIA:

Find out what Catholicism actually is before you commit to anything, or before you dismiss it. Get to know Jesus and how He established the Catholic Church.

Worried? Skeptical? Interested? Whatever you’re feeling is okay. Come and see! If it’s not for you, you can stop coming at any time.
